Keys to a Creative Morning

An early start is very likely the key to success in the biz world. You have to find out what works for you, but here are my keys to a creative morning.

I don’t know about you but I am definitely not a morning person, I literally created this illustration with the keys to a creative morning just to get me going. Even when I had an office job I would struggle to get up. Maybe it was lack of motivation, maybe it was that I hated that job, either way I would hit that snooze button at least 3 times before finally getting up. The rest of my day always lacked focus and therefore my brain did not cooperate with any creativity.

Since I started a business I’ve researched a bunch to learn the best practices on running one, everything to make me a better girl boss. The same kind of articles kept jumping out at me, everything revolved around making the best out of your mornings. The idea that your morning sort of dictates the rest of your day… kinda of like waking up on the right side of the bed makes your day go smoother.

Now that I’m doing my own thing and don’t technically have to get anywhere but my garage (where my ~creative lab~ is), I still take my sweet as time in the morning. BUT I do it in a way that makes me feel empowered, creative and full of energy that set the tone to my entire day.

Here Are My Keys to a Creative Morning

Keal’s alarm goes off at 6am, he turns it off and goes right back to sleep… and so do I haha. Around 6:30 I wake up and nudge him to go make coffee… he goes downstairs and I get an extra 10 minutes in bed with Pancake (ma dog).

The smell of coffee instantly perks me up and it’s like those old Bugs Bunny cartoons where the smell sort of guides you downstairs dragging you by your nose. That, combined with the sound of morning cartoons is enough to get my ass downstairs to the living room.

I drink my coffee while watching an episode of Adventure Time (what we’re binging right now) and then I cook a quick breakfast.

By 7:30 I’m doing my workout in the garage and since it’s a 30 min workout (BBG by Kalya Itsines if you’re wondering…) I’m hopping in the shower by 8am. This gives me an hour to relax, pick out an outfit, do my makeup and meditate. I do try to meditate everyday before I start working, right now we’re doing Oprah and Deepak’s 21 Day Meditation.

So why am I telling you all of this?! Well, it took me FOR-E-VER to get to this point. To actually having a productive morning, where I start my day happy, inspired and creative. Before, I used to wake up at 11am and then sit on the couch in my PJ’s with my laptop “working” in front of the tv. I’ve come a long way my friend.

Your Mornings Are The Most Important Part of Your Day!

An early start is very likely the key to success in the biz world. CEOs don’t hit snooze! There’s been countless interviews that ask giant CEOs what their secret to success is and most of them claim its having a productive morning. They leap out of bed in the morning because life is too exciting for sleep.

Bob Iger the CEO of the Walt Disney Company once told the New York Times that he wakes up at 4:30 AM every morning. He called it his quiet time he mentioned how much he accomplishes through multitasking during those few hours. So many more top CEO’s take advantage of their mornings, if that’s not motivating enough, I don’t know what is.

Create a Morning Routine That Works For You!

I rounded up the things that make mornings a bit easier on me for the ultimate creative day. Things as simple as lighting up a candle that makes me feel ~fancy~, smelling a fresh pot of coffee, dressing up colorfully and most importantly of all, being myself. I illustrated a pretty poster for you guys to have in case you need reminding or a bit of eye candy for your creative soul. Did you know that keeping a plant on your desk helps you focus and reduce stress? It’s true!

It took me a long time to get a routine down. I went through a bunch of random things until I found what worked for me, so don’t get frustrated if you’re not a morning person. If you set things that will make you excited to wake up and ease you into the morning, you’ll be fine. Just find whatever makes you happy.

Do you have any morning routines that help you kickstart your biz in the morning? Let me know in the comments below ????????‍♀️
